THE SPANISH 'EL GORDO' DRAW
The Spanish El Gordo Draw is the oldest lottery in the world. First played in 1812, it was originally named Sorteo de Navidad, or Christmas Lottery.
El Gordo holds monthly draws with a total annual cash payout of over €3 Billion. The July and December draws in particular pay out approximately €140 Million and €2.5 Billion respectively, making El Gordo the richest lottery draw in the world!
The El Gordo lottery is unique in that 70% of the money collected from ticket sales is paid to the lottery winners. It also offers unbeatable winning odds of either 1-in-3 (for most draws) or 1-in-6 (for the big Christmas draw).
